Buy yourself a paper shredder and shred anything that has your name on it. Then, the garbage police won't be able to connect you with your garbage in case you put something inside the bag that shouldn't be there. Our neighbors once put out their paper recycling, and they hadn't bundled it properly with twine. The stack of newspapers/magazines was crammed into their mailbox!
yes GL - you will find some areas are totally relaxed with garbage, especially in the French speaking areas. In Zurich area, I know garbage bags are a lot more expensive too.
Congrats on passing first week, now just wait until you have a party. ;-)

Actually, we already have a paper shredder. Anything with our personal information gets shredded before it gets tossed out.
So, do you recycle the shredded paper? How would one do that here?
Congradulations, you done your Mama prowd. GLDbusqvfb
I just throw out my shredded paper; they're not as strict about garbage here as they are in Zurich.
