Pagan Dance of Joy!

The smoking ban in the Canton of Zurich will go into effect on October 1, 2009.

Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy!

Desperate Times?

RyanAir, the Irish discount airline, is going to start charging people to use the restrooms on the planes.

How much lower can the airline industry sink?

Counter Intuitive

About a month ago we upgraded our internet service to the fastest connection available.

Since that time our internet connection has, well, sucked.

Today the company's technicians arrived to try to find the problem. After checking this and that and the other thing they could not find a reason for the slower connection.

Their advice?

Downgrade back to the second-best level.

Apparently the fastest connection is known to be problematic.

By the way, upgrading is free (except for the increased monthly rate).

Downgrading costs 100 chf...

Yesterday Global Baby started eating solids!

We debated back and forth about when to begin because we wanted to wait until he was 6 months. (Currently he is 4.5 months.)

But he had other ideas. He showed many of the expected signs that he was ready for solids. And most importantly, he had been eating more than 40 ounces per day and had started waking up in the middle of the night for extra feedings. Indications he was too hungry with just the formula.

Our little baby is edging ever closer to not being our "Little Baby" anymore.

Not the lest of which, he is already wearing size 12 months clothes!

Missed Travel Opportunity

While I stay in cold and dreary Zurich, GLH is jetting off to the French Riviera for a business trip.

I've checked the weather report for Nice. It's supposed to be lovely.

What makes it even worse is that originally Global Baby and I were to join him on the trip. But we are still waiting for the Swiss Residency Permits. So we cannot leave and re-enter the country.

When Cultures Collide...

...good things can happen.

Such as a peanut butter, Nutella and banana sandwich!

Weird, but delicious.

Happy World Nutella Day!

You can learn more about this annual event at http://www.nutelladay.com.

I was supposed to include all three organizers' links in my post, but that's a lot of embedding when one is typing one-handed while holding a sleeping baby.

Street Cred

Apparently I've got some "street cred" in our neighborhood.

This afternoon I was returning from a stroller walk/nap. Along our street there were 7 boys playing soccer (AKA: football). I recognized two of the boys from the Snowball Incident of a few weeks ago.

One of the boys called out "Time Out!" and all the kids stopped playing and stood to the side as I walked by. Polite "Gruezi's" were quietly muttered. The game recommenced once I was safely by.

Not sure if it was fearful respect or respectful fear, but it worked.
