Gadget Boy, Take Two

GLH: So I was thinking. If I got a splitter, I could attach the new printer to the telephone line and we could use it to fax things.

GL: Why would we need to fax anything? We could just scan it in and send it via e-mail for free.

GLH stares at me and disappointment shows on his face. He thinks about this for a moment.

GLH: But this is a printer and a scanner and a fax machine. We might as well use it. Sometimes a guy has just gotta fax...

Ahhh. C'mon... let him have his fun. He'll use it only 3-4 times (as fax). Then you can sign him up for origami courses to use up some of the leftover paper.

Heh, he's got fax software and a softmodem standard on his PC (do a search in setup (printers&faxes) and in accessories/communications), so a scanner/printer coulda done the job for less moolah. Ride him for an extra trip bonus! ;o)

Yeah, we knew about the fax option in the computer already.

We picked this particular printer primarily for its photo printing abilities. It's one of the best photo printers in the under 500 CHF range.

It can do a very good quality photo up to 8 x 10. We don't need larger than that very often.

We never intended to use the fax option. But now that we have it, GLH seems to think we should!

GLH's response reminds me of the scene in "This Is Spinal Tap" where Rob Reiner asks the band member when he sees the amps that have volume dials that go to 11 instead of 10: "...why have 11? Why not just make 10 a bit louder?"

"...but...these amps go to 11!"

TBF - that just happens to be GLH's favorite movie quote ever. I hear it ALL THE TIME!!!

Usually right after I've pointed out that we don't need something bigger and better...

Poor GLH he just wants his little gadgets to work and his wife just doesn't get it.

What's worse is she get encouragement from those online who read these exchanges.

BTW - Marian - I have been there for some of the exchanges, and let me tell you it is funny on both sides.

I hate to take the hubby's side, but I must confess, in the past year, I have used my multifunction machine a couple of times to receive faxes and once to send one. (It was either that, or mail in a form, and I didn't want to schlepp to the post office for a single stamp.)
