Sling Box to the Rescue!

Television options in Switzerland are pretty dire. And obviously much of it is not in English.

While we do not plan to spend a great deal of time watching t.v., we'd like to have the option of keeping up on our favorite shows such as Sopranos, Weeds, Project Runway and so on. And, of course, GLH would like access to American Football.

So being the librarian that I am, I did some research and came up with a solution. It's called Sling Box. You attach it to any DVR and presto! You are then able to record your favorite shows and watch them via your computer any time you would like. Cool, huh?

We've attached it to our television at home and it does indeed work. It's pretty freaky. GLH will be in the computer room changing channels, and in the living room it will be like a poltergeist has suddenly taken control of the television. (Why do men need to change channels that much?)

We are now interviewing prospective hosts. They must have great cable (with premium channels) and high-speed wireless access in their homes.

Anyone interested? Extra points if you are regularly able to see Cleveland Browns games on your television!

Sorry to hea rabout the aggressive bus drivers in Dublin! I lived there for four years and always waited for the "green man" before crossing. I'm glad you survived the ordeal and look forward to keeping up with your blog.

I'd be out seeing and exploring. I loved biking and just being out in pubs etc. TV was not a highlight either for me, unless you get a sky sat. dish. You can get those quite easily actually.

I'm not sure of internet tele options, but you can always use skype for extra cheap. a great place for this is yahoo groups. Basel is a very active one actually. There are some great guys in there with wonderful tips too..

oh wow - you were in Vancouver and didn't get a good view?? All summer and up until now we have had "california sun".. It's been simply amazing...

Thanks for stopping by. ;-)

Hey! We'd be happy to host your cable service. Just let us know what service you prefer, which channels you want, and the specific high-speed provider you prefer. Then send us a monthly check, and we're more than happy to do it.

My question is whether this "negotiating" approach ever actually works?

It's supposed to work? Who knew?
