Must Find!

After more than a year in Switzerland I have identified two electrical appliances that I have not been able to find here and I simply cannot continue to live without.

So if any of the Swiss-based Bloggers know where I could find one of these items, I would be hugely grateful. Otherwise I may end up using a car battery-sized electrical converter and bringing them from the United States!

The first is an electric frying pan, an incredibly common appliance available for around $20 (USD) from any Target, Wal-Mart or similar anywhere in the United States. It was always the appliance in my kitchen that I used more than any other. And yes, I know I have regular frying pans. But I just really like the electric frying pan so much more!

I also have not been able to find a "rising sun" alarm clock. You know, one of those things that fakes a sunrise for the 30 minutes leading up to when the alarm goes off. It is really hard to get up in the winter without one and I miss mine so, so much.
Help me, please! I am begging here!

You could buy an electric wok.

I thought about an electric wok. But it's the flat surace with the higersides that I am really looking for. A wok is too slanted.

I don't think I've ever seen the electric frying pan in Switzerland before, but I've seen the rising sun alarm just recently (in 20 minutes??). Hm. Let me check where and I'll get back to you.

Ok. I found 2 clocks: one from Philips and one from Sanalux, both around CHF 200.-, but I found this link http://www.toppreise.ch/index.php?a=109495&SID=e6a055f98f130a759e2d3fdc95f4f192 for CHF 125.50. As for the pan, go to http://www.mconline-shop.de/pd738240388.htm?defaultVariants={EOL}&categoryId=18
It's in Germany, but they say that there is usually no delivery costs from Euro 20.00 up. There is also a 32cm diam available.

Hope this helps.

Thank you! That's perfect!

200 chf is a bit steep for an alarm clock, but as it will help me wake up in the morning without growling at anyone, it's worth it!

I don't get it. You've been growing at anyone close since you were 5 when you got up in the morning. Remember my garbage can alarm clock? Didn't have to use it much.

Well, perhaps if the waking up experience had been a little more pleasant I wouldn't have been forced to growl at you? Did you ever think of that?

LLBean has a basic one that you can use batteries with. It doesn't have a radio and fancy gadgets but it seems to be the same thing...and way cheaper and life time guarantee.

I got so excited. Small and inexepnsive!

Unfortunately, the batteries mentioned are only for short backups when the power fails. Not all the time...

But I am now looking for a battery-powered, inexpensive optio I can buy online in the US and my loving sister can transport when she comes in a couple of weeks!

I have ordered both a Rising Sun Alarm clock and a frying pan.

Thanks for everyone's help!

I like the rising alarm clock..

I just used adaptors when I needed something to work, but Iguess you really can't do that with some appliances..

Please update us once they arrive!

I'm dying for a sewing machine (with instructions in English). If you happen to come across one of these....
