Tourist Central: Interlaken

After leaving Ballenberg, we decided we were so close to Interlaken (about 20 minutes) that it would be a shame to not stop for a quick look-see.

Interlaken is Tourist Central in Switzerland. The streets are crowded. There are shops selling everything from t-shirts that say "My Grandparents went to Switzerland and all I got was this stupid t-shirt" to 75,000 CHF diamond-encrusted designer watches.

As well as unique taxi services...

Not to mention more garbage littering the streets and green-spaces than I have ever seen in any other Swiss city.

But let us not forget why Interlaken became the Tourist Trap of Switzerland -- the breathtaking beauty of the mountains and the lakes!

I'm not sure what happened but some of these photos look overlapping..

I think we can see the flat we stayed in on one of your pics. P has a friend who's mother lives in the city center. This was such a treat for us to be in the center and learn from a local what it was all about..

But yes, too many tourists! we loved it late at night when less people were around. (Going over the Aare river and walking is great because less tourists go into old town.)
