We've already sent requests to a few different Expat Listservs in Zurich, but we've received no responses. Except for other couples who would like to be notified if we are able to find some information as they are trying as well.
So, I am hoping that someone out there in Blogger Land might know something.
GLH and I are seeking information on the foreign adoption process in Switzerland. From the research I have done, it appears to be somewhere between immensely difficult and completely impossible for an American couple to adopt while living in Switzerland. (The Swiss Bureaucracy favors Swiss couples first and European couples second. All other couples are a very distant third.)
If anyone knows an American couple living in Switzerland who were successful in a foreign adoption we would very much like to hear from them. Or if you know of a reputable Swiss lawyer who specializes in adoption, that would also be helpful. We can be contacted at: global_librarian@yahoo.com

I think I would probably start with the U.S. Embassy in Bern. Perhaps they've dealt with Americans in the same situation.
also - I'd try some of the yahoo groups, expat mom's in switzerland might be a good one too. It's a very active yahoo groups and since they are mom's maybe they know...

There's a great organization here in Basel called the Basel Childbirth Trust. They have a bulletin board on their website where you could post a question if you'd like. Lots of people read it here in Basel, and perhaps someone would have some helpful info for you!

I received an e-mail today from an American couple living in Geneva who have adopted twice while living there.
The advice is to just get a home study and approval by the Swiss government, then do the entire process through an American agency. It will go faster. The process generally takes 18 months to 2 years from start to finish.
I'll post on our progress as we move forward!
