Mrs. TBF creates one masterpiece after another in our tiny kitchen for the many dinner parties we have. Cleanup is a bit of a logistical ordeal, but the food sure is good. The Big Finnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09399330438126032649noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33053911.post-26545278614087182962009-02-03T16:12:00.000+01:002009-02-03T16:12:00.000+01:00All I know is I can't get my American dinner plate...All I know is I can't get my American dinner plates to fit inside my German dishwasher. Apparently Americans didn't think a decent sized kitchen was needed in 1924. I've seen bigger kitchens than mine in studio apartments.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33053911.post-54027031117050765742009-02-02T17:20:00.000+01:002009-02-02T17:20:00.000+01:00With these comments in mind I watched a couple mor...With these comments in mind I watched a couple more episodes. I think it is a combination of two things: extra large size and/or open floor plan with a living room area.

It seems as if the estate agents also don't completely agree!

Of course, the "extra large" size is relative. By European standards the kitchens are large, but by US standards -- not so much!Global Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14829642620261054318noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33053911.post-71950294933836414892009-02-02T15:57:00.000+01:002009-02-02T15:57:00.000+01:00I don't watch the prog, but I think they must mean...I don't watch the prog, but I think they must mean a large modern fitted kitchen. In the UK we mostly have this style of kitchen now (or hope to) but, for instance, both in Switzerland and in France, we had tiny kitchens compared to the size of the house/apartment.
Agree that what we call an American-style fridge is a big tall double one.Susie Verekerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15231577537523515291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33053911.post-72601918480445542752009-02-01T23:24:00.000+01:002009-02-01T23:24:00.000+01:00In Ireland they just say "American style fridge" t...In Ireland they just say "American style fridge" to denote the bigger standing unit that has a freezer attached. It's a small fridge that fits under the counter. In America, we like the massive side-by-side refrigerators that require their own postal code. Other than that, I believe it refers to a more modern looking and spacious kitchen.

Danie <--a Canadian who has lived in the US and the UK, but by no means an expert!Danie B.https://www.blogger.com/profile/05511535869022410118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33053911.post-59817543461441233782009-01-31T11:47:00.000+01:002009-01-31T11:47:00.000+01:00I think it's a kitchen that is open onto another r...I think it's a kitchen that is open onto another room, as opposed to a kitchen that's a distinct and separate room.rswbhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18012776363244113631noreply@blogger.com
